Review

‘Hidden Desire’ is the LAST instalment in the ‘Hidden Saga’!!!!! Can anyone believe it! After reading this novel I felt like there should be more, More, MORE! Argh! My biggest wish is that Amy Patrick writes short stories to show a bit of the future lives of each happy couple. And I’m talking wedding ceremonies, honeymoons and babies galore!
Like all the previous novels in the series, there was a great romance story that had me hoping and wishing at every turn for Culley and Laney to get together. Amy Patrick made the connection and attraction between them absolutely natural. Not for one moment did I doubt that these two belong together; their personalities just made them compatible for all the right reasons.

Amy Patrick’s sweet and poignant loving style continues to make its presence know. There was a lovely flow in the writing and natural progression in the plot. However, I felt like this novel just didn’t quite live up to the rest of the series. There just wasn’t that UMPH that the rest of the series had.

I felt like the whole problem surrounding the S Scourge and the battles between the Light and Dark courts was just not as great as it could of been. The problem was dragged on for one novel more when it could have been exaggerated and developed more. What’s more, this scourge and battle between the courts was resolved in one easy and single action. This was probably the only downfall of the novel.

I really enjoyed the depth of emotion the author was able to use in her writing. I felt the longing Culley felt for Laney and the hatred he felt for himself and all his past wrong-doings. I felt Laney’s desperation to finally live the life she wanted too, yet also the betrayal she felt at the injustices life had served her. This is a piece that will get you wrapped up in a heady swoon of emotions both wild and passionate.

A great use of tension and anticipation. The author prolongs the buildup to a long-awaited event with skill and dexterity. I was on the edge of my seat and anxious for the majority of the novel. Then, when I couldn’t expect anything more, the author would deliver it.

The plot was well thought out, and just when I thought I knew where the story would go, the author would decide to take me on an entirely different path! It was both a joyful and an exhilarating ride!

If you’re looking for a romance with a dash of fantasy, then look no further. You’ll find all you want in the ‘Hidden Saga’ and more!

Congratulations to Amy Patrick on publishing the gorgeous finale in the ‘Hidden Saga’! I can’t wait for more of your work!

Review: Hidden Danger (Hidden Saga, #5) by Amy Patrick

Hidden Danger (Hidden Saga #5)Hidden Danger by Amy Patrick

Review

‘Hidden Danger’ is the fifth instalment in the gorgeous and alluring ‘Hidden Saga’. I cannot express how happy and satisfied I was whilst reading this novel! I’m completely at loss for why I put off reading and reviewing it for so long! Nearly 8 months! I can honestly say that I am deeply ashamed of myself.

One of my greatest fears before I launched myself back into the world of the Light Court and the Dark Court was that I would not be able to follow the plot as well as I could have, and that the story would be partially lost to me because it had been so long since I last read the series. I was also a bit lazy – I’m ashamed to say – to reread books 1 to 4 and with little time. So despite all my reservations and the fear that I would unjustly rate this novel less than it ought to be due to remembering only the general gist of the ‘Hidden Saga’, I began the wonderful ‘Hidden Danger’!

I really shouldn’t have been so worried. This novel was easy to get into despite the long reading time gap I’ve acquired.

Within the first chapter I was caught and eager to learn more. Ava was a compelling character whose perspective the novel was told in. Her past transgressions against Lad and Ryann as well as her guilt and regret over them made me long to take a peek inside her mind. She was weak initially, but she built strength to go against the wishes of Audun.

Ava’s evolvement over the course of the novel was distinct and one of the reasons I gave the novel a five star.

This is the second time I’ve enjoyed reading about a love-triangle. Ava’s chemistry and the potential for a passionate romance resonated within both Culley and Asher. There were so many times when I would think Ava would choose one of them, and she would surprise me and choose another. The one she chose in the end surprised me beyond all. But in the end I was happy with that choice. It was true to Ava.

The writing was incredible. The author was able to infuse both emotion and imagery with such skill and talent that not one page was a bore to read. I loved the flow of language and the way it pulled me in. I was eager to read every page and there was not one minute which I could say was less than what I hoped for.

There wasn’t much progression in the way of the battle between the Light Fae and the Dark Courts Fae, however this was eclipsed by the romance in ‘Hidden Danger’ which didn’t draw back from the novel in the end.

A lovely ending to this novel which had me eager for the next!

Congratulations to Amy Patrick on publishing a fantastically fantastical novel! A swoon worthy read!

Review: Hidden Darkness (Hidden Saga, #4) by Amy Patrick

Review

After putting off reviewing this novel for AGES I was so happy that I could find time to finally READ it. I have fallen in love with the ‘Hidden Saga’ and couldn’t wait to delve into book four. I was really upset when book three ended because I believed that to be the ending, but I was ECSTATIC to discover that Amy Patrick had decided to continue the series with an extra THREE novels! Seriously, she rivals with Kiera Cass as the most gracious young-adult author on the planet!
Oh. And I also really, really, really, really looked forward to seeing Ryann and Lad get married. But that’s just the extra icing on top.
As always, Lad had me falling in love with his character before I even got to page two. I mean, how much better does a guy get? He was sweet and caring and really, incredibly considerate when it came to Ryann. I loved his gentlemanly nature and the way he refused to “compromise” Ryann until AFTER their bonding marriage, if you get what I mean. (That little “compromise” bit was actually Lad reading Jane Austen in the novel.)
Once again, I fell under the spell of the authoress’s writing. It flowed and spun letters into words, words into sentences, sentences into paragraphs, paragraphs into chapters and the chapters into the novel that we readers know as ‘Hidden Darkness’. It was absolutely beautiful and I loved the use of imagery and emotive language which really was what really made the novel SO GOOD! I fell into the world of Altum every single time I opened the book and it was such an easy and smooth transition that it is almost as hard as it is easy to put the novel down.
The novel’s also told entirely in first person narrative. It spans with three main points of view: Ryann’s, Lad’s and Ava’s.
Ava is one of the new characters in the novel and takes the role of an ambassador from the Dark Court arriving in the Light Court. She is a really complex and realistic character despite her weakness and lack of will when it comes to obeying her mother. I found that she was an EXTREMELY good addition to the series and I hope to see more of her in the future.
Plot progression was done masterfully, in my opinion. I thought that the author paced everything spectacularly from the course of events to new secrets revealed and shocking surprises as well as those lovely romantic scene between Lad and Ryann. Facts and information about the world of the Dark and Light elves was given in such a way that you didn’t even realise you were receiving it. I was kept gripped and flipping those pages from start to finish without even knowing it!
The plot was well structured and made ‘Hidden Darkness’ a read which I approached with GREAT enthusiasm. This is my fourth – no FIFTH – novel by Amy Patrick and I must say that she never disappoints. I loved the new storyline she had set into the series and how a new character would be now taking centre stage amongst our beloved, older ones.
The chemistry that the authoress continued to spark between Ryann and Lad was OFF THE PAGES AND ROCKETING INTO THE SKY!! I couldn’t get enough of the two together and after EVERYTHING that the two went through together, I couldn’t wait to see the two of them FINALLY happy and bonded. Every kiss and touch that the author penned was so realistic and tangible that I was in danger of becoming SERIOUSLY jealous of a fictional character! If you’re looking for something swoon worthy, you won’t find anything better than this!
The ending was spectacular and, as always, ended with Amy Patrick’s signature cliff-hanger. That woman is going to be the end of me! I thoroughly enjoyed it and it was the BEST that the authoress could have written. So satisfying and HOT OFF THE CHARTS! I can’t wait to launch into book five!
If you’re looking for a compelling and intriguing read full of fantasy, love, hidden laughs and poignancy, then ‘Hidden Darkness’ is a MUST read for you. Just…make sure to read the other novels in the series before launching into this one!
Congratulations to Amy Patrick on publishing the FOURTH instalment in her beautiful ‘Hidden Saga’!

Review: The Sway (Hidden Saga, #2.5) by Amy Patrick

The Sway: A Hidden Novella (The Hidden Saga)The Sway: A Hidden Novella by Amy Patrick
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Review

I was very excited about reading ‘The Sway’ mainly because of the two following reasons: 1. I got to learn more about Vancia who – I must admit – grew on me; 2. Meet this awesome new character that ties in ‘Hidden Hope’ the third book in the ‘Hidden Saga’ and the fourth book ‘Hidden Darkness’ – a much anticipated novel.
Vancia is actually more of a good girl than the manipulative/badass one I thought she was. I loved exploring the story from her point of view and deeply enjoyed getting to know her better and learning the ins and outs of her childhood as a teen living under the shadow of Davis Hart – evil extraordinaire. What really surprised me was her attitude towards ALL humans – which you’ll learn of if you choose the read this novella. Her type of ‘sway’ or glamour (which I found totally intriguing whilst reading the novels) is explored more deeply here. It also gives an insight into what Vancia is capable of. Vancia’s and Nox’s royal statuses before the deaths of their parents and their separation are also revisited and clarified. I admit I was confused and unsure of their families’ positions before but ‘The Sway’ clarifies all.
The lives of Dark Elves are more prominent in this novella and given an in depth look. It’s a huge contrast to Lad’s life and his upbringing, for example. We get to learn about them as they go about their daily lives in disguise and how they differ both from the Light elves and human’s lives.
I would strongly recommend reading this novella BEFORE reading the third novel, ‘Hidden Hope’. It makes reading the end of ‘Hidden Hope’ SOOOOO much better. I deeply regret picking up this novel after having read books 1-3 as it also provided me with a deeper look into the problem that was going on throughout those novels.
The writing was wonderful as always. I really enjoy reading from Amy Patrick’s style as it really is the epitome of what young-adult books should be like. It’s full of zest and humour, drama and emotions. Really, a GIANT ball of literary goodness. There was excellent grammar and no spelling mistakes that I could spot. There was one typo but it was easy to ignore and I would have totally missed it if not for a large font.
Congratulations to Amy Patrick on publishing such a lovely novella in her captivating ‘Hidden Saga’!

Review

After reading the first two novels in the ‘Hidden Saga’ I was OFF the edge of my seat, bouncing with excitement about getting to read the THIRD instalment! I gave ‘Hidden Deep’ and ‘Hidden Heart’ FIVE stars each, JUST because each of them was so good! After the MAJOR cliff-hangers at the end of each of the previous novels, I think it’s free say that ‘Hidden Hope’ did NOT disappoint.
‘Hidden Hope’ continues to focus on the relationship of Ryann and Nox who had developed a romantic relationship during their adventures in LA. Ever since Lad had broken up with Ryann and became engaged to Vancia (Ryann’s adopted sister via her biological father – I know, confusing right?) Ryann had been trying to put thoughts of Lad and feelings for him out of her mind whilst desperate missing Nox.
I really enjoyed the pace of the novel: It was steady but quick enough that I didn’t lose interest or become too overwhelmed. The author would reveal something new about the characters, their romances, or the elves every chapter and I really enjoyed the fact that the story was as well formed as the previous novels.
‘Hidden Hope’ did not suffer from middle-book syndrome like so many novels out there. I felt enraptured with this novel as much as I was with the others and I loved that the author increased drama levels and tension with every consecutive story and that she built on our knowledge and would leave some questions unanswered but to be later revealed. Anticipation levels were also VERY high! I would read ONLY to reach the long awaited ending and then be bombarded with a BIG cliffie!
Amy Patrick is obviously a seasoned writer and it really comes through in her writing. Everything was beautifully told and her constant usage of emotive language really helped me connect with Ryann and Lad as well as other important characters. I loved the scenes that the author would paint and would often feel like I was right there. She utilises setting very effectively to enhance the emotions and feelings permeating a scene. I would be able to see, hear, touch, smell and taste everything her characters could as well as experience passionate emotions from the characters. It was a masterfully told novel!
Characters were very well developed and I loved how dynamic each and every one was. Ryann, Lad and Nox would all grow and EVOLVE with the progression of events. They would change but in some ways remain vitally the same. They would act more mature and grown-up durinh dangerous or complex situations and I loved that about each and every one of them. Our characters would have depth in character to them that made then terribly realistic and each had a well-developed background history that spiced up the novel and would grow my knowledge and understanding of them.
One thing I really regret about the ‘Hidden Saga’ series are the covers. I mean, they’re not BAD or HORRIBLE but I feel like the covers could’ve been MORE and could’ve added to the general appeal of the series as a whole MORE. I know how much covers play a huge role getting a novel out there. My number one wish would be that the author change the covers of her series. Though the covers DO capture the novels they don’t capture ALL and EVERYTHING about the novels and I feel like the covers just don’t do justice to the content. But that’s my opinion.
Such a beautiful ending! I really couldn’t have asked for a better finale to this part in the series! Full of raw emotion and lots and lots of love and happiness I was crying with joy at the end. (Metaphorically, because otherwise my friends and family would have looked at me weirdly. Lol!) I only wish that we could have gotten a wedding and marriage for our lovely couple whose names I will DEFINITELY not reveal as it will give away a HUGE part of the story! I beg you all to go out and read this series! It is ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I’ll even go and say that it’s BETTER than the ‘Divergent’ series!
Congratulations to Amy Patrick on publishing such a…I have no words to describe this novel! I CAN’T WAIT to read ‘Hidden Darkness’!

Review: Hidden Heart (Hidden Saga, #2) by Amy Patrick

Hidden Heart (Hidden Trilogy, #2)Hidden Heart by Amy Patrick

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Review

I was very excited about this novel! After the EPIC first novel ‘Hidden Deep’ I couldn’t WAIT to launch into this sequel. I was eager to return to the world or Altum and its “elven” inhabitants as well as follow Ryann and Lad as their romance blossomed. Full of emotion, it really captured my reader’s heart. I felt deeply connected to all the characters and loved how much the author pulled on my sympathy strings, even though they would in turn pull on my heart strings.
The novel started off by giving us a peak a month later following the EPIC cliff-hanger at the end of the last novel and then returned to a month earlier, picking up at the same time as ‘Hidden Deep’ ended. I was deeply upset for our newly reunited couple as they FINALLY had the chance to be together and were now ripped apart by the tumultuous events once again.
I loved, Loved, LOVED the diversity of characters. Each was very unique with distinct characteristics and personalities. I admired some characters’ attitudes because it made them so TANGIBLE that even the villains seemed to be not completely evil but people the reader and other characters just misunderstood. The three main characters in this novel – Ryann, Lad and Nox – all held a special place in my heart. Ryann was such a persistent and determined character (with a BIG attitude towards certain people – ahem, Nox) that I couldn’t stop myself from becoming quickly attached to her. Lad was just a complete sweetie even though I DID want to bash his brains out for being completely and unimaginable senseless in some situations. He was a complete gentleman though I suspect that that may have to do with the fact that bonding in “elves” includes a very intimate connection. Nox was…a bad boy with a traumatic and very sympathetic past. I felt so horrible for him when the author continued to explore him in ‘Hidden Heart’!
‘Hidden Heart’s plot progression was just EXCELLENT! It was masterfully woven, and with the beautiful characters which Amy Patrick had created and, there weren’t any loose ends left untied. It had a very solid story arc that connected well with the first novel and left room for a continuation of the series. There were also small sub-plots in the novel that really enhanced the story.
Written in first person past tense, I greatly enjoyed the way the author structured the novel so much like the first in the series. The sort of prologue starts off in the present and then flashbacks to the past for the majority of the novel. The story then rounds itself off by returning to the present. I thought this was a clever way to grip the reader from the beginning. I also really admired the skill, maturity and talent of the author in her writing style. She was able to grab me from the very beginning in ‘Hidden Deep’ and then masterfully compelled me to continue to ‘Hidden Heart’ through beautiful imagery and emotional language that left my heart almost torn in two at the end. Even though this is a mostly unknown series it DEFINITELY deserves a go!
Tension, drama and anticipation were in SPADES and BUCKETFULS in this beauty! I mean how much more could it take? The author really knew how to add a sprinkle here and then a splash there to make the story a FIVE star!
The grammar was excellent and the prose just flowed so well, I was utterly enchanted! I spotted no spelling mistakes or typing and formatting issues which made ‘Hidden Heart’ so much more pleasant to read.
MAJOR, HUMUNGOUS CLIFFHANGER ALERT! Seriously! This author does not give her readers a rest does she? But I must also admit that I was TOTALLY loving it! Congratulations to Amy Patrick on publishing such a spell-binding sequel!
