Review

‘Halo City’ is a novella which chronologically takes place before the events of book one, ‘Crossroads’, and in publication order takes place after book three, ‘Beyond’. It follows Michael as he makes his first appearance at Halo City, Crossroads and it was a really enjoyable insight into his past and personality.
I loved the flow of the story. It seemed gentle and just plain happy. There were some really humorous moments that just made me smile a silly grin and others which were sadder. The emotions were VERY palpable in this novella!
The authoress also introduced Claudia is a unique way. I really enjoyed how the author showed Michael’s and Claudia’s first meetings. It really was a wonderful insight into the couple’s past.
Many of the supporting characters we see in the rest of the series have come back and made their – silly yet endearing – entrances and introductions. It was nice to see their return.
There were a few formatting issues with my paperback copy such as that some pages were blank after a chapter ended, for no reason, and the font was a bit too big for the novel. It seemed almost childish in size.
The grammar was good, yet there were a few typos but no spelling mistakes. The prose could have been worked on a little bit more, in my opinion.
Congratulations to Mary Ting on publishing a lovely companion novella to the ‘Crossroads’ series!

Rating Plan
1 star : Strongly did not like the book, writing and plot was bad. Idea of the book was against my liking.
2 star : Didn’t like it, didn’t find it interesting or gripping. Seemed to drag on to me.
3 star : An average book. Wasn’t bad or good. Everything else was well done. Original idea.
4 star : Like a 3 star but has potential to it as a series or the book grew on me as it progressed and certain scenes captured me. I Enjoyed it and read it in one sitting.
5 star : I LOVED IT! I stayed up late until 3 am. Author is a genius, characters, plot, idea, development, EVERYTHING was EXCELLENT. Nothing else can possibly be said except that its 5 STAR!
