Despite being incredibly happy that the series was to be continued and another serial being written for Lucy, I was very surprised through the short story certainly gave away the author’s intentions. I have loved Lucy’s and Maxwell’s story from the beginning and was very eager to dive into this new serial. This novella is all about what happens after ‘Unmasked’.
As always, I loved the writing. It was professional, strong and captivating. The author’s voice was always strong and present – which I greatly admired – and transported me straight away into her world.
‘Captivate’ follows Lucy on her first day if work as an assistant to Lucas Alastair. Lucy had spent all night trying to read through the hearty legal contract bestowed upon her by Mr Alastair but throws caution into the wind before she is able to read through the last fifty pages of the contract. She now has a future alone to think of and is in desperate need of a way to support herself. Lucas Alastair’s proposal sounds too good to deny. But will Lucy regret making such a hasty decision? Or will it be her bet yet?
The novella was extremely short and easy to read through. It was full of Lucy’s desperation as well as her character wittiness and strength. ‘Captivate’ is told entirely for Lucy’s point of view in first person narrative and made me frown at times yet crack a grin at her funny thoughts. I loved how the pace had picked up and was no barracking straight ahead.
Excellent grammar and prose filled the novella. I couldn’t spot any spelling mistakes or but I did spot a couple of typos in my advanced reviewer’s copy of the short.
Congratulations to Delilah Fawkes on publishing her THIRD INSTALMENT in the ‘Run to Him’ serial!
