WILD BOYS AFTER DARK, #4: Cooper

Four years ago at a film festival, Cici Fine met Cooper Wild, a man who turned her world upside down in the span of one deliciously perfect week. He was everything she’d ever dreamed of: sinfully sexy, intelligent, and incredibly loving. When the festival ended, they returned to their own hometowns with promises of forever. But Cooper disappeared, and Cici was left to raise the daughter he never knew about alone.

Cooper is finally thinking straight after years of being lost in grief from the tragedy that killed his father and left his mother blind. Now he’s on a mission to find the woman he left behind—the only woman he’s ever loved.

But Cici Fine is no longer a naive young girl. She’s a savvy businesswoman with big responsibilities, on the cusp of a life-changing move. When fate brings the two together, they’ll put the old adage to the test and find out if love really can conquer all.

Review

A Note to Readers about ‘Cooper’: Melissa’s fans have been asking for a darker, sexier version of The Bradens, and she’s proud to bring you the Wild Boys and the Bad Boys in the new After Dark series. The After Dark series is written in the same raw, emotional voice as The Bradens and her other romance series. However, please be warned that the language in the After Dark books is naughtier than in her other novels, and the heat level has amped up a bit. She hopes you enjoy them as much as she enjoy writing them.
‘Cooper’ is the fourth novel in the ‘Wild Boys After Dark’ series and last and youngest Wild Brother. It is a story with a lot more history to it and one that I believe is infinitely more sad compared to Cooper’s brothers’ as he lost his one true love when he was quite young and believed he never had the chance to reclaim it. I looked forward to it as it sounded so much DIFFERENT compared to Heath’s, Logan’s or Jackson’s.
In Cooper’s and Celeste’s story (even their first-name initials are the same! *squeals*) their romance is second-chance type – and it’s one of my favourites. There is something about second-chance romance that brings hope to the reader and makes you ‘go’ for their happily ever after.
Cooper is a man who has been tormented by the death of his father and the savage beating of his mother for the past four years. He was broken but finally he has healed, rebuilt himself and is finally ready to go and reclaim his true love, Celeste (or, as Cooper affectionately calls her, Ceese).
Celeste is a woman who had never fallen out of love with Cooper ever since their week together. But the week together resulted not only in an enduring love and plans for the future, but with a daughter. Now that Cooper has returned after all these years, so has the passion and love the two shared; but Celeste has her daughter, Melody, to think about, and she cannot make any mistakes that would hurt her baby daughter.
Throughout the entire novel, Celeste keeps hidden the fact that she and Cooper have a daughter. And I’m like: “Whyyyyyyyyyy? Just tell him already! I said, tell him gosh dang you! You’re gonna ruin everything!” I got frustrated with her for her reason didn’t seem ALL THAT PROBLEMATIC. It was so feeble that I almost exploded with frustration!
One thing that I have noticed Melissa Foster do is gradually escalate the emotional attachment each Wild brother has to their love interests with each novel before the beginning of the story, which makes them new and original to read.
Now, Melissa also did something really sneaky: She put in the CUTEST LITTLE GIRL IN THE WORLD (EVER) into the novel. Now I’m a sucker for little kids, so this novel ended up being more potent in emotion for me.
I did get a little bit confused with this novella as it didn’t really have a complication, or at least the complication wasn’t dramatized as much and it skipped straight to the resolution and ending. You’ll get what I mean when you read the novel: and I mean it, READ IT.
‘Cooper’ is a pretty quick read: very short and could be considered a novella. I literally FLEW through it. Grammar was good and there were no spelling or typing mistakes that I could find. POV alternates between Celeste and Cooper similar to the previous novels.
‘Cooper’ was a great way to end the series! The Wild brothers are definitely one-of-a-kind gentlemen. If only men like that existed today! *swoons melodramatically* It also introduced the spinoff/sequel series, ‘Bad Boys After Dark’ to this series, ‘Wild Boys After Dark’. All the ‘Bad’ brothers are single but we already see a romance brewing between a brother and a very lucky lady which I THINK most of us know about: Mandy, sister of Allyson (Heath’s fiancée) and Mick, eldest brother of Dylan Bad.
Congratulations Melissa Foster on publishing a wonderful series. I can’t wait for the spinnoffs!
